Yep - order away and click the option "Deliver to JOV's Kindle". The first time you wirelessly / cable connect, all the books will automatically download.

Just had a weird experience with the kindle book store, I was going to link to a book I bought on the 30-Dec-2010 its disappeared from the store

Checked my kindle for PC and its still there and I can read it just hope amazon don't try to delete it from there.

The book in question is Into The Wild

Getting quite dissolusioned with Amazon at the moment.

Very slow for books to apear in the asia-pacific market - when there available in epub on other devices already, and on amazon.com or .co.uk

I've even got a book from amazon.co.uk that now the whole author has dissapeared from the kindle store !

I am starting to think about getting a Kindle to force myself to read again to do something more productive with my spare time. Couple of questions:

- Is there a relatively straight forward way of converting .pdf or other file formats to be readable and how well are they rendered?
- How capable is the browser? I am thinking of getting a 3G version for going on holidays so would only be using it to check up on emails etc and not for rich content websites.
- How complete are the Newspaper subscriptions compared to the print versions? Obviously you are going to lose out on graphics but it's not a major facet for me.

Maybe not legal or able to discuss but is there a way to tether the 3G connection for other devices?

You can use Calibre is convert .pdf's and other file formats to the kindle's format as long as there is no DRM on them. The kindle can read .pdf's but can be hit or miss sometimes and the converted one's can be the same.

It not brilliant but it's ok for checking email and using twitter if need be, the biggest drawback in the keyboard the button are really tiny.

Not used the newspaper sub so can't comment, but calibre can grab the rss feeds of the online versions of quite a few newspapers (I use it for the Guardian and Independent) and find it covers most of the news.

Don't think it can be done.

To convert PDFs, just email them to your Kindle email with 'convert' in the title. Obviously works better for plain text than graphics and tables.

I use the browser quite a bit (as I've said). For sites designed to be mobile friendly I find it fine, for other sites it's fiddly but usable. You're not going to do much input on the keyboard though, beyond entering passwords.

Wouldn't be surprised if we get to use the Kindle as a 3G modem once they start charging for bandwidth, but until then no chance.

From what I've read improved browsing (some things work that didn't) and possibly an improved e-ink driver (some people reported faster page turns, some reported better contrast, some reported worse contrast!).

I didn't bother.

How does Kindle deal with photos?

eg if you get an autobiography which will often contain photos, do they show, or is it text only?

I don't think it'll force you to read if you don't already do this. I have one and although it's pretty good, a book is still a better experience.

surprisingly good, although as discussed previously it's really not suitable for PDFs (too slow & clunky).

This pic shows the K2 and K3 displaying an inbuilt 'wallpaper'.

I only got mine on friday and not read in anger yet as I am still reading a paper book - but I am impressed - it will do what I want and that is to be a book reader - the one thing I will miss is picking up books at boot fairs and charity shops - not tried anything outside of the Amazon store. But it means when I go away sometimes for weeks or even months I can have a supply of books to hand.

I think it's brilliant as long as you accept that it is a reader and not a browser/mp3 player/tablet. I've read more since I got mine than I have in years.
