I have tried to avoid as much as possible about this and going in with no more expectations that it may be a bit like deus ex which I loved
However have caught a few snippets this morning that the main story is 30 hours. It’s mad to think that that’s now deemed “short”
That sounds fair amount of time to be honest and I imagine with side quests that likely to add another 10 hours or so and then the inevitable expansions etc

I wouldn’t worry about the quantity of side quests. It sounds like that is where a lot of the content is. As we know from The Witcher 3, their side quests put many other single player story games to shame.

Having never played Witcher, can someone give me some idea how this RPG element it has differs from, say, GTA?

It is an RPG and has experience, levels, skill points, different gear, abilities and freedom to play to your own play style. So in the case of Cyberpunk 2077 that play style might involve guns, cybernetic upgrades that give you different abilities like hacking, stealth etc. GTA is a story driven open world adventure type game which I wouldn’t really class as an RPG. Cyberpunk 2077 probably has more in common with the Deus Ex games.

Just installing a 15GB patch now. I don’t think this is the main ‘day one patch’ though.

if the game is 30 hour main quest and about 10 hours of side quest then thats fine. Nothing worse when devs stretch out a game for another 10 hours to get that back of box quote "50 HoUrS oF GaEmePlAy" Played a few games recently and ruined by the devs stretching out the game (recent AC games would be better if they were not 60 hours games)
Disappointing its buggy, hopefully the day one patch will fix the worst ones. I think reviewers are being harsher then other games because of the hype and the delays

And because of their inherent wokeness.
Although it doesn't help that certain scenes in the game apparently trigger seizures, without much in the way of warning.

I had actually just read the Polygon review and it's not that bad. The first two paragraphs are about not being able to play as a trans person. I almost stopped reading but the rest of the review is good. Apparently there's an understanding that the cyberpunk genre is supposed to be very trans focussed, but my take was that the genre was more about transhumanism rather than transsexuality.

Cyberpunk has always been about transhumanism (person and machine) but I don't think it has been trans focussed, its just blue hair twitter warrior hijacking something

Christ this is one buggy ass game. Going to bed now but whilst clearly it has the makings of a great game, there's a **** ton of issues. If you're playing an an ultrawide, there is no option to centralise the ui as far as I can see, leading to text blur on the edges (not to mention the utter ballache of moving your head from side to side every two seconds to check health and the map). Given Destiny 2 has had this since launch is baffling why this doesn't. The amount of weird clipping is hilarious (there was one bit where i was following a dude who's guns just stopped moving while he carried on, leaving 2 guns just floating in the air). There's loads of occasions where things just don't work (crouch seems to stick and skips audio, in the hacking tutorial i couldn't actually select anything, there's weird fast forwarding audio occasionally) and at the minute the story is a little odd, although i suspect that's due to my annoyance at the bugs - maybe it'll get better.
There are really good things, the armed combat seems great (unarmed seems a bit crappy but i haven't played it for long enough to judge and i expect as i level it'll get better), it really is a beautiful game and the characters seem great. The side quests are your usual CDPR fare, extremely detailed and actually could be part of the main game and when it's running well it's a joy. The problem is that, for me at least, it's rare it's running well. For me it's currently verging on the do not buy as a recommendation, simply because when the bugs are fixed i'm sure it'll be top 5 games ever but they should never have released it in this state - it's like Andromeda all over again.

Playing on Xbox and I haven’t encountered any major bugs so far, although I’ve only just done the four virtual/simulation training tutorials for Combat Training, Hacking, Stealth and Advanced Combat Training. I actually made a manual save at that point because I want to redo the hacking and advanced combat training again just to make sure it sinks in.
Started on the Nomad origin path as it seemed like being an outsider to Night City was the best way to be introduced to it because that is also the perspective of the player. In the garage where you have probably seen some footage of V fixing the car before driving off, there are items to pick up, I even spent spent some time on the mechanic’s computer reading the emails and surfing the Net which has different websites to visit. Then I went next door and found some credits and something else to pick up and take with me. I suppose what I’m saying is, while this is a game you can just blast your way through like a FPS, or mainline the story, you can also just walk around, explore and play it like a Deus Ex game if you like.
I don’t know if the choices I made in the character creation part of the game were good or not - no I’m not talking about the penis size or the style of your pubic hair; but the skill choices you pick. I wasn’t sure whether or rot to specialise or distribute the points fairly evenly. I ended up going for 4 in most skills but 5 in intelligence and Cool since I knew I wanted to do more hacking and stealth. I don’t even know if those can be improved or not, the game doesn’t really tell you.
Edit: oh my god, how much loot is in this game. There is just so much stuff I collecting in the first mission. Then I had a look at all the menus and crafting. It is all very daunting.

At lunch just did all the VR tutorials, only had 1 slight bug where the video call stayed on the screen after the call ended (very common I heard on the corpo playthrough)
Base (old) consoles its not crisp, but its ok. Some twitter cock goblin posted a screenshot of where the textures looked very very low res and acting thats how it looks all the time
Its a real shame its launched with all sort of bugs on all platforms as there is great game and amazing game world. the difference with Andromeda (and fallout 76) these games got fixed up but the game was meh or in f76 case, horrible ****** experience still
When I get series x or ps5 will be playing it again

So oddly, the further i've got the less bugs there seems to be. I have to admit I was really concerned last night - Now? Man i'm really loving it. I'm still annoyed that you can't centralise the ui but i'm used to it now.
I have played with the settings a bit and am no longer getting texture issues - turning ray tracing off has also made a huge difference. All in all i'm actually pretty pleased right now.

I've seen this in games many times, and I think it's because they get so obsessed with "smithing" the first few hours they just end up introducing complexity and bugs, but later in the game it's fairly well established path.

Cyberpunk 2077 - RPG from The Witcher guys!
Played a couple hours on Series X in Quality mode & it looks good & runs smoothly. Graphics do lack a bit of sharpness but HDR makes all the neon zing nicely.
Have already encountered three major bugs, two of which required me to quit out & reload. Enemies during the final VR training fight randomly left the gaming area & as I couldn’t kill them, I had to quit out. Also at beginning of first main mission of Act 1, the character I was to meet, didn’t appear at location, so that was another quit & reload. Very embarrassing for a game so many years in the making. When it does work though, it certainly looks & feels special.
