(I also have 1 solo play, for a specific solo scenario. There is one solo scenario per character class, and it was really good. They are challenging, for once you reach a certain level with your character.)

Since I last posted we have added 3 new games to our collection and one expansion in the form of Herb Witches for the Quacks of Quedlinburg.

Nusfjord - a nice worker placement game which doesn't take too long to play and can be bought quite cheap at the moment.

Abomination: The Heir of Frankenstein - Another worker placement which I did wonder if it might be a bit too heavy but it's pretty easy to learn and I love the dark theme. It's nice to have a game which takes a bit longer to play.

The Taverns of Tiefenthal - From the same designer as Quacks this is another which doesn't take too long to play and it's nice that it comes with some modules rather than selling them as an expansion. Played it a few times and I felt it could have benefited from another round or two however once we add the modules this may not be an issue.

We cracked open Sagrada yesterday which is absolutely brilliant. Very quick, compact, extremely replayable and beautiful to look at. Highly recommended.

Being a week into lockdown, we are getting play a lot more games. Since last posting my collection has grown considerably (see pics).

We've been mostly playing:

Wingspan (and European expansion)
Isle of Cats
Terraforming Mars
Sagrada
Ghost Fightin Treasure Hunters
Reef
Azul: Summer Pavilion
Duelosaur Island
Ank'hor
Villagers
Naga Raja
Ramen Fury

Loved them all.

We have 2 Unplayed that we own (Race for the Galaxy and Magic Maze) so hopefully will get around to playing those in the coming weeks.
I play Race for the Galaxy on my phone quite a bit, just never been brave enough to teach the Wife (afraid all the iconography will put her off).

We’ve had a bit of a ticket to ride weekend. Started off with 3 player New York, then 4 player 10th Anniversary Edition (which my 8 yr old won by a long way) and then 2 player Europe.

Quite a few friends are now asking for board game recommendations

I still really like Ticket To Ride. There's quite a bit of snobbery towards it on the Facebook groups. We have Europe, United Kingdom, and London. They are all fantastic, and totally different playing experiences.

We used to have New York, but I sold it on as it's essentially the same as London. I kept London, because the buses are pretty cool. And it's London .

I have the 10th Anniversary Edition which is lovely. If it wasn't a bit bashed up I'd probably flog it and swap for a few other editions as the downside is that none of the expansions work with it as trains are a different size

I really need to give Ticket To Ride a go.

I tried it - as a complete newbie - on XBox Games Pass over the weekend as a trial and it wasn't making much sense at all. Maybe the board version is easier/better ?

That looks awesome though I couldn't work out, from a Mattel YouTube 'how to play', is ... what happens if you fight a ghost but lose? You don't seem to be able to die?

It's a cross between Flash Point and Pandemic.
You work together to get the treasure out in numerical order, whilst trying to stop the ghosts spreading.

Each turn you move and flip cards, when you flip a card it states which room a ghost appears in. If a room has 3 ghosts then it turns to a Haunting. If you get 6 Hauntings then it's game over.

1 person can exterminate a ghost, by rolling a ghost icon. 2 people are needed to exterminate a haunting (by rolling 2 haunting). You can't leave a room until its been exterminated.

Nope, you can't die. You just all lose. You can't die in many modern boardgames.

It is a really cheap game too, only Ł13 at Amazon. You get quite a lot for that price too. The ghost figures are really cute, and well made.

Thanks William Shatner's Wig - it was actually Ł16 but still a snip and nothing really lost at that price

I see it also has an expansion pack; Ghost Fighting Treasure Hunters: Creepy Cellar. But tracking down a UK seller at a reasonable price is not easy

Yep, I saw that. Patiently waiting for Amazon.de to reduce their price.

Ooh, didn't know there was an expansion. That's the advance game instructions btw, with my 4 year old worked really well just with the simple rules
Was a bit easy that way imho tho

Oh blimey, don't say that. Hopefully the advanced version is harder.

I am beginning to think maybe the 8+ rating should have been a clue ? Though most of the reviews I have seen say it just as good with adults/teenagers.

The digital version is more or less identical, it just plays quicker. From memory the tutorial is pretty good so maybe give that a go if your haven’t?

Essentially you do one of 2 things on your go, you pick up train cards (either face up or blind from the deck) or claim routes between cities with the right number of coloured cards for the route, as indicated on the board. You’re trying to link the cities on your destination cards (which you keep secret), which you can draw more of as a third optional action.

More points for longer route and destinations. You lose points if you don’t complete a destination card.

That’s basically it.

I was playing the tutorial.

Just seemed to keep picking up train cards every turn ( one coloured train card let's you claim one piece of track of that colour, right, and you can't claim part of a route - it has to be all or nothing ? ).

Will give it another go at some point and pay more attention

If you collect say 4 red cards you can claim a 4 red card route on a subsequent turn (or a grey route, which can be claimed with any colour).

You can’t claim part of a route on a turn.
