Where did you find that? I've struggled to find much online apart from their broad statement on their help pages about the current crisis.

On my Samsung TV it lists what video streaming I'll get as HDR10 HD which would suggest they support HDR on my TV, which would mean from you what found that it should support 4K as well... Certainly Netflix and Prime can do both.

I found mine on the nvidia shield forums...

Mine doesn't say anything except for "HD" - could be the hdmi cable on mine I guess as I'm not sure the one I'm using is HDMI 2.0 compliant.

Prime plays fine in 4k though (don't have netflix) as does youtube and dodgy streams through kodi

I have Disney+ via the app on my LG TV and everything that is 4K is showing as Dolby Vision or HDR10. TV confirms that it is playing them too.

Does it say HDR10 4K under the film/show listing, not just under the "available in" section? Your TV is confirming the 4K resolution?

If so that would suggest everyone who isn't getting 4K then will need to invest in a different streaming device.

Damn it, that means they're supporting 4K on some TV's but not supporting it on others and not giving any indication why... That's quite annoying.

Well I've tried both Samsung and Disney+ live chat and neither of them could give a clear reason on why it isn't seeming to offer 4K.

They obviously now have a statement

NOTE:*In light of the concerns expressed by government officials regarding the use of broadband services in this challenging time, we have instituted measures to lower bandwidth utilization, and in some circumstances streaming content in HD and UHD formats will be limited or unavailable. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Their chat basically said the same thing

Yeah I saw that but it doesn't fully explain why some devices are getting 4K and some aren't. My TV is the 2016 model and HDR on Netflix until recently could be a bit funny. I reckon their app is being really specific about what devices it allows to have access to 4K.

Maybe it depends on the content ?

Unless you know you are watching the same thing as someone else, how you do know it's a problem with the device ?

I'm trying the films The Bear has posted above and other ones that are stated online as being in 4K, the original Star Wars films.

I think it's either one of the following:

1. Disney+ app is not recognising some 4K devices as being 4K capable. Possibly due to framerate issues
2. Disney+ app is deliberately not allowing some devices to be in 4K for some unknown reason
3. The current throttling they're doing is being applied to some people but not others

I think 1 is most likely.

You'd hope that the app can check the device capabilities, but they might just have a list of approved model numbers or ranges. These can differ slightly by region. For instance in the UK, Currys/PC world always have their own pointless model variants and different numbers.... I think so their TVs don't show up when people search for reviews.

Anyone having trouble with volume on the smart TV app?

On our LG, it's very quiet. We have everything else at a volume of 10-12, whilst we have to ramp Disney up to 20ish. That level would normally make our teeth rattle, but it's still barely loud enough.

Yep, have to the same on my Sony through the TV speakers. Funnily need to raise to around 20ish as well.

Its fine on my LG sound bar though

I got a Roku Premiere in the end and lo and behold 4K was then available on the Disney+ app on that, plus Dolby Atmos, which presumably it detected from my AV receiver. I don't have the speakers for Atmos but it definitely output 4K for me from Disney+.

So I'm taking that to mean their Disney+ Samsung app isn't properly detecting the capabilities of my TV. On the Samsung support forum I've been told in the US the same TV has the same issue. It launched with just HD, got HDR a little later and 4K is promised. We'll see, I think Samsung is having issues properly supporting the older 2016 models or in the least isn't properly motivated to do so.

App on my LG is fine. That is through a Samsung soundbar via optical.

They've already done an update for the LG app, and the sound has definitely improved. Still a little quieter than say Netflix, but much better than it was.

I've noticed recently on my Samsung TV, if you select one off the tiles to see the whole collection movies for that brand i.e. disney, marvel, star wars etc the screen just goes black ... on the main page the movies/tv shows work fine.

i cleared the the cache, (uninstall was disabled, however i did have an option to reinstall) - which made no difference

i didnt want to reset the TV just for this....

Reading other people comments its a known issue on Samsung side, hopefully we'll get an update
