I like red letter media but hate rich (on the right in the screenshot - that laugh is nails on the chalk board) They just want Discovery to be like TNG or even voyager. While s1 has not been perfect and needs some tweak to Micheal's character and that ending on the klingon planet but its mostly been great (lot stronger than 1st seasons of all the other shows) TNG s1 is mostly laughable

Saw a couple of reviews of the show on YT and they trashed the show as its not like past shows and there is a fanbase who just wants another enterprise or voyager

It took me a while to get into it, but some of the episodes were fantastic. I'm happy to admit that Tilly really grew on me as her character developed.
Pity about that rushed ending, but hopefully there'll be some good things to come next season.

But didn't people hate Voyager and Enterprise at the time?

Although not perfect (no program is) as you pointed out the first season of TNG was awkward and the cast are quite stiff and its not until season 3 and after that the crew seemed natural together.

With TOS they seem to hit the ground running there is a genuine chemistry between the main three players Kirk, Bones and Spock. Sulu, Scotty, Uhura and Checkov for me don't become players until the movies.

Some of the best episodes like Doomsday Machine Uhura is not even there.

Point is there is not enough time in a episode to given all the main cast something to say or do or even develop them. Yes some episode put focus on a character like Scotty in Wolf in the Fold but these are few and far between.

With TNG, VOY, and to a lesser extent DS9 and Enterprise to more effort was put into giving the crew something to say or do that was not essential for the plot. This seems to get worse the more main characters a series has. TNG and Voyager are the worst offenders.

DS9 wasn't shy about not using every character per episode. Enterprise however used some characters too much Mayweather and Hoshi are the prime examples.

Example Enterprise - Silent Enemy one of my favorites and directed by Winrich Kolbe who directed some of the best of the other Star Trek but even he got bogged down with the extra fluff to give Hoshi a task to find out what food Malcolm likes for his birthday. in the middle of a crisis involving a fight with an alien race who wont communicate.

At least Discovery is not shy about giving the other crew members nothing to say or do apart for being at their posts. In this respect it is just like TOS and I hope for that part it stays that way. The Voyager and TNG stuff can go.

What I want from season 2
  1. Prime Lorca to return but be worse than the Mirror Lorca (who IMHO was quite nice to his crew of the Discovery)
  2. Like them to meet the NX-01 crew in the past
  3. Romulans and a Romulan war either in the present Discovery timeline or they go back to the Enterprise era
  4. Fix the Kingons somehow
  5. Kill Burnham no series has killed off a major player since Tasha Yar. Yet someone must hold a grudge against her for all the people who died in the war. This could be used as to why Spock never mentions her in TOS (Would be great if Harry Mudd was the one to do it but never discovered)
  6. Keep the story tight with a reduced number of episodes if needed.

Wasn't Jadzia Dax a major player in DS9 then?

And Trip in ENT - although, nobody really cared about that episode (not even the people who made it).

If Dax and the Symbiote had died I would say yes but as half the character returned (possible the most interesting half of the character) in Ezri Dax the Dax character never left. Killing Trip in the final episode was neither clever nor needed and any mini series needs to correct this as a holodeck glitch (bloody Riker)

Didn't they literally just do this with Lorca? He was the captain of the ship the series is named after...

Lorca was not our Lorca so no I don't think they have done it yet.

Well we hardly knew her so again no; nice try though.

Burham is supposed to be our way in to this incarnation of Trek but i don't like it bring back the captain as the main focus. The only reason she was on Discovery is that Mirror Lorca had a thing with Mirror Burnham and wanted another thing with Prime Burnham. If she had not been there we would have used the bomb on the Klingons and Job done.

Well you could argue we never met "our Lorca" and until the reveal (and presumably most of the season) he was just Lorca?

Just wanted to say:

I HATE Michael Burnham

She should have been kicked out ages ago.
Hi, I don't think I agree with you captain.
I think I will go behind you back yet again.
I'll do things my way instead.

She's be kicked out on her ass in any organisation. Total liability.

She's a total contradiction claims to uphold the values of Starfleet but most of her actions have been un-Starfleet like.

She acted in the first few episodes more like a mirror Burnham.

Either way after being made specialist which seems to be no rank at all she still had access to Admirals took decisions that are above her paygrade. This make her as our way in even more ridiculous.

At least they should have had Tyler kill her instead of the doctor who was well worth keeping.

I think it was supposed to be her journey. She started out doing whatever she wanted, and erm, ended the same way but now recognises Star Fleet values. Unless she doesn't want to.

Nah she'd sell her own mother to a bunch of randy Kazon before breaking the Prime Directive. If she had been as flexible as Burham; Voyager would have been Star Trek's shortest series at 90mins including credits.

Everyone seems to complain about the first couple of seasons of TNG, but there's some really good stuff mixed in with the not-so-good. I'm re-watching the whole thing a few eps a week, and I'd forgotten how universally dull and forgettable most of season 7 is.
