The Grand Tour (2016)

So they finally decided on a name

After months of deliberation and lots of useful suggestions from the public, for which the guys are very grateful, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have decided that, because they are taking their new Amazon Prime Show around the world, it will be called The Grand Tour.

Not only will the guys travel to different locations, but for the first time ever the studio audience recordings will travel every week, all housed within a giant tent. Amazon customers will have the chance to be in the audience when tickets are released through prize draws this summer.

Looks good, no convinced on the name myself, would have expected something better if you're going to have various clips of you coming up with a name. Seems to be sort of following a Top Gear like format with a studio audience

Pity that Amazon Prime is not available in Ireland.

I would have liked to watch this show.

Name is meh. Actual content will be good though I'm sure. Should have gone with 'Poweeeer' or 'Driving Gods'

Dxfatass 11-05-2016 14:33

The name is growing on a bit now after a bit of a :| initial reaction. GT sounds good enough to refer to the show in passing, so I can accept that - it's just the wait for the show that's killing me  :D

Is the fact that GT is TG backwards a coincidence?

jockosjungle 11-05-2016 17:18

I'd guess so

scoobyood 11-05-2016 18:43

Should have called it H982 FKL

I guess not

any choice Anagrams of The Grand Tour ?

There's a punchline somewhere:shrug:

jockosjungle 14-05-2016 06:36

Nope, I think it's just a universal name that translates well into other languages. If you think about it, Top Gear doesn't really mean anything, and it can't translate well. When I'm on the motorway I wouldn't say I was in top gear.

CLH 14-05-2016 09:07

It's fine. GT is the soft, powerful, comfortable version. Thrills and that comfortable feeling. It has legs. It's long lasting.

You can be in top gear in any car. Few cars can claim to be true GT's.

I quite like the name myself. It didn't have to be tongue in cheek, we all know what to expect from these guys.

It's quite apt, it relays what the shows appears to be about - touring the globe on a scale only these guys know how to do, it has automotive connotations (GT, Gran Torino, Gran Tourismo) and they could tie in natty car related abbreviations into spin off shows (GT-R, GT-I, GT-S)

Maybe I'm looking too much into this :suspect:

Top also means excellent, and gear also means equipment, likely a reference to the high end cars they played with.

Yes exactly my point, maybe it worked OK in the UK, but such an odd term, it's not likely to mean a lot abroad is it?

Clarkson has tweeted this pic of the first audience

Is the series imminent then?

No idea , I would assume they'd get a few filmed before transmission , I must say I'm really looking forward to it though
