Arrow Utopia - Channel 4

Anyone else watch this tonight?

I really enjoyed it and tune in again next week.

But I'm going to struggle to eat my breakfast with a spoon in the morning...

Did enjoy most of it, I think one of the most harrowing / effective torture scenes since Reservoir Dogs - but this is worse - no spoons at brekky time!

Lots of interesting links to other comics and lots of Watchmen (not surprisingly)

Well shot, not sure if instragram will be the filter of choice for all TV but....

Who was the bloke that was stabbed on the street?

Thought it was good - a decent mix of drama and humour. Would be interested to read the Utopia Experiments - wonder if they will ever release it?

He was the police man investigating the suicide - he ignored Wilson Wilson's advice not to write up the fake medical history in a police report. You know it's going to get a bit dark when the Channel 4 man warns about violent scenes after a graphic throat stabbing!

I enjoyed it...it has a nice bleak feel to it, perhaps because seeing Neil Maskell and Michael Smiley onscreen reminds me of Kill List. Will be interesting to see how it all pans out...

It also reminded me of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror (but better), which has a second season starting soon.

I feel that the people hunting down the Utopia 2 had some influences from Anton Chigurh, No Country for Old Men.

Enjoyed this, the colour of it reminds me of a lot of Everything Is Illuminated.
Didn't think the torture scene was too bad, it was more implied violence than anything. Movies like Saw go one step further and usually show it!

Got confused at first, he kept asking where is Jessica Hynde, and I thought she became Jessica Stephenson (the actress from Spaced) but then in the last scene discovered it was Hyde and not Hynde he was saying.

Liked it, had a very similar atmosphere to Kill List.

Liked it too Can't wait for the next one, want to see what direction it goes off in and how deep the conspiracy goes

Interesting use of the 2.35:1 widescreen framing to achieve a cinematic look and feel. Geeky trivia: Top Boy on C4 a year ago did the same thing.. I later found out that it was shot digitally with anamorphic lenses, so it wasn't just a case of the 16:9 image being matted down... the filmmakers were doing it for real

I had high hopes for this but it's just annoying. I notice the Channel 4 blurb repeatedly calls it "enigmatic", which is a nice way of saying it's "wilfully confusing" and "up its own arse" in order to cover-up how painfully dull all the characters are. Yes, it's nicely shot but that doesn't make up for an opening episode that was needlessly stretched to 70 tedious minutes.

Found the first 15 minutes or so confusing, especially the scene about the PhD, but soon slotted into place.

Assume this is just a two-parter?

Wilson Wilson was a bit of a twit. Arranging his life so there are no records anywhere on him. Hiding his ISP computer address so he can't be tracked and then he gives his contact details to authorities so the bad guys can track him down. Stupid plot line

Really enjoyed last weeks and looking forwards to tonight but really irritated by the use of 2.35:1 - films are shot that way because cinemas have screens in that ratio - its a tv drama not a film and viewers don't have 2.35:1 screens at home to watch it on - its just vanity really.

I think it's tomorrow night.

Did anyone else try their "how quickly can they find you" questionnaire? 51hrs, 25mins, 53secs for me, mainly thanks to my complete lack of use of all social networking sites. The biggest no-no for me was having a phone with apps that have ads.

I thought it was good but a bit , a bit, well I dont know exactly what stopped me thinking it was great but there was something missing.

One thing that did stand out is that they manage to fine Wilson who has no details and torture him. The other two go and rescue him and decided a great hiding place will be the girls flat Surely if they can find where Wilson lives that know where she lives, especially as they went to the trouble of getting her arrested

Anyway certainly done enough for me to watch the next one, which is what a first episode is meant to do.

The only reason they knew about Wilson Wilson was because the policeman filed the report. The others weren't mentioned in it.
