2 Broke Girls and New Girl - 2 new US comedies.

'2 Broke Girls' stars Kat Dennings as a Brooklyn diner waitress who takes a spoilt trust fund princess under her wing when the latter's family is embroiled in a city wide financial scandal. They become roommates and are on their way to being BFFs with a plan to get ahead in business.

'New Girl' stars Zooey Deschanel. She's just broken up with her boyfriend and moves in with 3 men she met on Craigslist. As you do. Hilarity ensues.

The previews over the summer for both shows were horrible but amazingly when watched in context both shows are actually rather funny and really cute too! Gets a from me for some chuckles and several proper laughs! These will make a nice addition to 'Happy Endings' in the weekly comedy roster.

hmmmm 2 Broke Girls might be okay, had a few laughs and some kind of plot device.

New Girl was lame though. As adorable as she is, Zooey's too wispy and ethereal. Her brand of meeping doesn't make for a good sitcom character.

Was on the way to hating 2 Broke Girls after 5 minutes, but it had won me round by the end. Will give it a couple more weeks at least.

Can we stick to one programme per thread? It'll be a bit weird having two shows being discussed at the same time unless they're related of course

I quite liked 2 Broke Girls, reminded me of Becker somewhat. Quite a good opening scene but the rest of it didn't blow me away but it was entertaining

At this stage they are fledgling shows, at least one of them will be cancelled. Which ever survives can win thread title?

Not even the lovely Zooey can convince me to watch New Girl - it just looks awful.

On the other hand Kat Dennings was enough for me to watch the pilot of 2 Broke Girls. Oh dear. It's like they dredged everything that was naff about '70s and '80s sitcoms and used it to make this. I won't give up after the pilot because shows can change quite significantly after the opener, but quite how this managed to do so well at test screenings is beyond me.

Not necessarily. No benefit to having a shared thread anyway

They don't take advantage of them in the pilot.

That's exactly what I thought, then I watched it. It surprised me in the same way 'Happy Endings' did.

If a mod wants to split the thread into the separate shows, please do.

Then there is the 3rd "Girl" new sitcom, "Whitney" written and staring one of the creators of 2BG. Maybe the strongest of the 3 but as with the other 2, I wasn't sure about it but will watch some more before I decide if I'll dump it.

I'll give the show a go after seeing her leaked mobile photos. More female actresses should do this type of promo.

Gave the pilot a watch on the strength of the recommendation and I see what you mean with the Happy Endings comparison. Definitely better than 2 Broke Girls.

Just watched it too and enjoyed it. Tried 2 Broke girls and it was rubbish! I hate the canned laughter track too! I prefer to laugh when I want to, not be told.
