'2 Broke Girls' stars Kat Dennings as a Brooklyn diner waitress who takes a spoilt trust fund princess under her wing when the latter's family is embroiled in a city wide financial scandal. They become roommates and are on their way to being BFFs with a plan to get ahead in business.
'New Girl' stars Zooey Deschanel. She's just broken up with her boyfriend and moves in with 3 men she met on Craigslist. As you do. Hilarity ensues.
The previews over the summer for both shows were horrible but amazingly when watched in context both shows are actually rather funny and really cute too! Gets a from me for some chuckles and several proper laughs! These will make a nice addition to 'Happy Endings' in the weekly comedy roster.
Not even the lovely Zooey can convince me to watch New Girl - it just looks awful.
On the other hand Kat Dennings was enough for me to watch the pilot of 2 Broke Girls. Oh dear. It's like they dredged everything that was naff about '70s and '80s sitcoms and used it to make this. I won't give up after the pilot because shows can change quite significantly after the opener, but quite how this managed to do so well at test screenings is beyond me.
Then there is the 3rd "Girl" new sitcom, "Whitney" written and staring one of the creators of 2BG. Maybe the strongest of the 3 but as with the other 2, I wasn't sure about it but will watch some more before I decide if I'll dump it.

That's exactly what I thought, then I watched it. It surprised me in the same way 'Happy Endings' did.
Gave the pilot a watch on the strength of the recommendation and I see what you mean with the Happy Endings comparison. Definitely better than 2 Broke Girls.

Just watched it too and enjoyed it. Tried 2 Broke girls and it was rubbish! I hate the canned laughter track too! I prefer to laugh when I want to, not be told.
