Pacific Rim

Del Toro's next movie.

Synopsis - When an alien attack threatens the Earth's existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.

Quote:
Willem Dafoe and Rob Kazinsky are the latest names to sign up for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim.

The pair join the already-cast likes of Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi in the monster movie. The mouthwatering pitch sees human-piloted robots facing off against an alien threat.

Character details are relatively sparse, but apparently Defoe will be playing "a rogue scientist with expertise on alien creatures," while Kazinsky's set to be "a member of the team trying to defeat the invaders."

Interestingly, del Toro seems to have plumped for leftfield choices in terms of casting, favouring less widely-known performers over A-listers (Tom Cruise was in line for At The Mountains Of Madness, before it stalled).

Dafoe should at least add some familiar gravitas in a role that sounds tailor-made for him.

And it's good to see that erstwhile Eastenders star Kazinsky has bounced back and landed a blockbuster role, after having to depart The Hobbit for personal reasons.

Any film with Guillermo del Toro's name on the poster will grab our attention, but with this premise and cast, Pacific Rim is truly sounding like one of the most exciting films in pre-production.

Looking forward to this. Shame about At The Mountains Of Madness though.

Not Bad for the chap from Eastenders. Had to quit Hobbit and gets a gig on Del Toro's latest instead.

Charlie Day is in this! Nice. Comic relief no doubt. New Del Toro is always good.

Did Kazinsky actually leave The Hobbit for 'personal reasons' or was he booted by Peter Jackson a la Stuart Townshend on 'Lord of the Rings' and Ryan Gosling on 'The Lovely Bones'?

hmmm quiet thread, lets bring it up to speed.

A teaser poster was revealed for this years comicon. Footage shown at comicon with very positive reaction but nothing leaked online. Some stills have been released of the humans but no shots of any robots or creatures.

okay now some more interesting news. Warner Bros. are post converting the film into 3D despite Del Toro earlier convincing them not to. The film has international appeal and the only way to get American films shown in China at the moment is if its 3D or IMAX.

Del Toro would prefer you watch the 2D version though.

Seen that. A tad Cloverfield in style and with the proliferation of smart phones there would be far too much footage of a better quality available to justify that sort of trailer anymore

Yep, a watered down Cloverfield by the looks of it, which I loved.

This is just a viral marketing video. This is not the films first trailer. That will hopefully come later this month.

The official site has the aforementioned video, leaked security documents and blueprints of the various Jaegers which the Pan Pacific Defense Corps use to fight the giant creatures (known as Kaiju).

The countdown has six days to go...

I never said it was a trailer, don't think anyone did. We have seen enough viral releases now to know the difference. Countdown from the site is for trailer release as it will be attached to showings of the Hobbit.

Well seeing as they have GLaDOS they should just set her on the monsters.
