HTC Wildfire

I noticed on the coming soon page on the T-Mobile site the HTC Widlfire. At first glance it looks like a cut down version of the HTC Desire.

Could be an option for those people who consider the Desire to be out of the price range.

Went to T-mobile yesterday to try it out, but no working models (of pretty much anything) on display. Looks good though.

Models at Vodafone and T-mobile arrived at weekend so had a play - like the Desire but with a poorer screen and slower processor. Good budget model

Yeah - we got one of these this week for the missus - 18 months @ £15, £40 for the phone; 100 mins, 100 txts, free "unlimited" internet.

First impressions? You do notice the screen, but if you're moving up from something old and crappy, it's not too bad. If you're moving down, or have already got an iphone, or ipod touch... My wife seems to think she'll be able to check her fave websites on it with the pinch zoom etc.

Slower processor than the Desire but its not too noticeable yet. More irritating is some of the setup stuff for things like the Phonebook/People app, which is just crazy. May well be an Android thing common to the Desire too. Cracked it now...

In Brum they had stock in Vodafone (where we played and established the screen was miles better than her old rzr) but T-Mobile had them too and we rang ahead and made sure they had stock. Seems like stock arrived everywhere on Saturday.

Brum seems to have lots of billboards advertising it...

One thing to note - if you take lots of pictures, its a 5MB camera w/flash, but the screen can't really do them justice. Prob fine when we get them onto the PC...

2MB Micro SD card in the phone when we got it.

had a go of the htc wildfire and samsung galaxy portal in the shop and the screen on the htc put me off it so i'll probably go for the galaxy despite the old os (1.5).

I thought it used the same screen type as the desire? What didn't you like?

I saw the dummy in a shop yesterday, seems to be a very solid phone, quality feel to it.

Its a much lower resolution, but about half the price (total cost of contract) of the HTC Desire. My wife loves it.

Its an android phone for the masses, for people moving into Smartphones from a crappy old phone with a lower resolution at a nice price, rather than an android phone for people who don't want to pay the iphone premium.

it has a lower resolution screen (240x320) so browsing the web requires more zooming/scrolling for the text to be readable, the smasung has 320x480 and it was a lot better for reading small text (desire is probably even better resolution?) although the htc did seem better in most other respects, more responsive, better on screen keyboard etc.

edit - beaten to it

yeah, same screen but lower resolution, it also has a slower processor, but as you say, it's a phone for the masses. Looks a much better phone than the Pulse which was designed to fill that niche.

I think the Samsung may be stuck on 1.6 (at best), so that's something to consider as well.

I was gonna get this to replace my Hero but the reviews say its a bit laggy, bit weird as it has the same processor but lower resolution screen, and I get no lag on the Hero.

We haven't noticed any lag, but then we've not had any other Android handsets to compare it with.

Got one this week, well impressed but it is my first android/touchscreen phone - does seem a lot easier to use than many others.

Just received one of these for my son, is it right that you can't have live wallpapers on these due to the resolution or something like this. He's lovin' it so far, I have the desire so have put him in the right direction ref some games etc but is there anything else you could recommend specifically for this phone? Thanks...

Is the screen that drastically worse than the Desire's?

My missus loves the functionality of the Desire but it's a bit bulky for her so she's taking a shining to the Wildfire. I'd hate to tie her in to a new contract though if the screen's as **** as some of the comments I've read. I know it's not AMOLED and has a lower resolution but would be interested to read your thoughts on how much difference there actually is.

Well my missus picked one up and it is unfortunately.

It’s a bit laggier too but that’s to be expected but the screen’s poor tbh.

Having said that it’s a lot nicer to hold than the Desire and it has almost the same functionality aside from games and videos and considering she’s got it free on a £12.50 p/m contract we’re both happy with it.
