Can't believe there isn't a thread for this already.
Cheesy macho 80's british action flick with Lewis Collins is finally out on High Definition.
Doesn't look half bad either.
Cracking release from Arrow Films. 2 disc set including the movie on DVD as well as BD. 37 min documentary on producer Euan Lloyd and 25 min making of programme from Granada show 'The Electric Theatre Show'.
Audio is only LPCM mono (despite saying DTSHD-MA 5.1 on the box )
I believe this is the first time it has been release in 16:9 (I could be wrong).
SWEET!!! I love this film
Being the cheapskate that I am, I might wait for it to get a bit cheaper though

I was very disappointed with the Blu Ray. There's not one scene in the film that looks like HD. Theres no detail at all.
The packaging states "suberbly restored extended feature". Its not suberb and the running time of the blu ray is a just a few seconds longer than the running time stated on the BBFC's website for the original cinema release. So it hasnt been extended very much.
Still, I'm pleased to have a 16:9 version of this. Guilty pleasure for me too.

That's a shame. I think I'll wait for £5 then.

Following their official announcement of Joseph Zito's Red Scorpion, independent British distributors Arrow Films have revealed that they are planning to release two more action films in March: Ian Sharp's Who Dares Wins a.k.a The Final Option (1982), and Andrew V. McLaglen's The Wild Geese (1978).

Reversible sleeve with 3 original poster artworks and newly commissioned artwork cover
Double-sided fold-out artwork poster
Collector's booklet featuring brand new writing on the film by Ali Catterall, author of British Cult Movies Since the Sixties
More special features to be announced!
Region B
Apart from the packaging extras, that list of stuff seems to match the previous Arrow BD, in which case the making-of is a vintage, TV thing, rather than a proper retrospective.
The commentary is decent though. The producer and director play a few games of mutual appreciation, then despite having a few 'senior moments', Euan Lloyd tells some cracking stories, including a beauty that starts with Ronald Reagan and ends with Stanley Kubrick.
If they have done a new restoration then this will be a day one buy for me. Have per-orderd but will keep an eye out for reviews as to if I cancel or not.

No mention anymore of: The Making of Who Dares Wins, featuring Euan Lloyd, Ian Sharp, Lewis Collins, Judy Davis any more
Never thought of this as a guilty pleasure, just a great film. Why Lewis Collins never became a bona fide movie star afterwards remains a mystery. Just did a search per comments above and the last decade has not been kind to him. Doubt he'll ever appear in public again.
I remember a mate saying the format was far from certain when I said I'd just ordered a DVD player in early '99. His one question was 'Can you get Who Dares Wins on DVD then'? Had to admit you couldn't and wonder if I'd just blown 250 nicker.
In a classic piece of syncronicity, IMDB says that in his first role since appearing in The Bill, Lewis Collins will appear in a new film called 1066* alongside....Reg Hollis (Jeff Stewart).
* Currently in pre-production.

Hmmm. British TV icon becomes a recluse, vanishes to LA, gets old and comes out of retirement in his mid 60's to play English nobility in historical epic.
