Any word on if the Manhunter Blu-Ray will be multi-region ?
Although all the movies in the upcoming Hannibal Lecter trilogy Blu-Ray box set are of interest, the Manhunter disc is probably the most eagerly awaited, just hope it will be region-free. Manhunter seemd a litle flashy and pretentious when came out in 1986 but looking back on Michael Mann's long career IMO it now looks like being his best movie. Has anyone heard about the region-coding on the discs ?
While we're waiting for the Blu-Ray release, Mr Woo's terrific earlier post of the japanese DVD reminded me that the current Region 2 DVD release appears to be a stand-alone single disc, does anyone own it and know what version it is, does it contains the script lines quoted by Mr Woo ?

Bump because this was released yesterday, haven't seen any reviews yet. Apparently, Fox don't send out review copies until their discs have been released.
My boxset just came this morning and Manhunter is definitely region-free, along with Silence of the Lambs. However, saltysam is correct in saying that Hannibal is region locked, the UK version from Universal is region-free.
Thanks, Daveboy! Now we need a complete review of the Manhunter disc and confirmation that it's definitely the right original cut!
Go on, get on it!
Where did you buy from btw and was it customs free?
It sounds as though it's the theatrical cut used in the early MGM DVD which includes the scenes shown in mr_woo's great post above. It would be great if Daveboy could confirm. There are some good caps from this Blu-Ray on AVS.
This set reminds me of the early DVD days when you could pay £28 for a non-anamorphic "Abyss" or £30 for a really bad transfer of "Ran". The cheapest on-line offer is playUS where you can get Manhunter on Blu-Ray (plus two other movies, one of which is region-coded and won't play in UK Blu-Ray decks) for £30 but you'll probably get stung by customs/GPO Christmas Party fund for another £20
Hoping Play or someone do a exclusive as they did with the original Planet Of The Apes etc.
If you mean a UK release, MGM don't have the rights to Manhunter in the UK (Optimum do currently) so who knows what version will get released here as and when! I'm really not willing to take the chance yet again, it took 4 seperate dvd releases to get the right one last time around and then I had to import it from France!
Out of interest does anyone know which of the many cuts is actually on the current Optimum dvd?

i got mine from Tower for around £33 delivered.not cheap but guaranteed no customs at least
Gary Tooze's Beaver.cm site has posted a review of the Hannibal set, seems to claim all three discs are region-free. My copy hasn't arrived yet so I haven't been able to check them on my Region B Sony 363.
Well, there's a silly comment right there in his Manhunter review -that only the Divimax DC is worth watching on DVD PQ-wise. Try the French R2, for start. Oooop, and it's the proper theatrical cut too, not the inferior DC. Or try the mega-expensive Japanese R2. Both look great.
