Update (12:07am, May 28): We just heard from a separate reliable source that Fox is possibly working on an origins story, as opposed to a straight-up remake. Still...

In January we broke the news that Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios would be producing a reboot of Predator for 20th Century Fox. Our regular tipster was proven correct once again as the story was confirmed in April. Our tipster even scooped us on who would be penning the remake, now titled Predators.

So Mr. Anonymous is back again. And being that 20th Century Fox is remaking Predator, it doesn't surprise me at all that Fox is also going back to their catalog for a reboot of Ridley Scott's Alien.

What our tipster informed us is that - opposite the Predator situation - the plan is to stick with the original concept of only one alien on the ship.

Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and even Tony Scott are all on board to produce and have tapped Carl Rinsch to get beyond the camera and bring a new Ripley to the big screen.

Who is Carl Rinsch? I'm being told he's a commercial/music video director and does work for Scott Free Productions, who is also producing the remake.

In the original, the terror begins when the crew of a spaceship investigates a transmission from a desolate planet, and discovers a life form that is perfectly evolved to annihilate mankind. One by one, each crew member is slain until only Ripley is left, leading to an explosive conclusion that sets the stage for its stunning sequel, Aliens (my favorite film of all-time).

We'll keep you posted on any updates, but that's what we got for you this evening. Remember to take it as rumor until confirmed as many projects change through the course of development.

I want a prequal involving the space jockeys. If a reboot is done then I can see it being a PG-13.

The reason T4 is rubbish is because of the script/director nothing to do with the certificate.

It's Fox, guaranteed they will completely **** it up. They're an absolutely horrible studio these days and love to interfere far too much and meddle were they're not wanted. An Alien film should NOT be a PG-13 either which they will definitely go for.

No, it will be rubbish because the studio will want a friendly version to gain the maximisation of profit from it's demographic targets!!!!!

These days! There track record of meddling with genre films and ruining them started with Alien 3.

Well ok fair point, I meant that in them days they'd at least let them have an R rated rating for a franchise film. Nowadays they take a beloved franchise like Die Hard, completely neuter the main character and action for a new iteration to make it more 'palatable' for a PG-13 rating. They wouldn't have done that 10 - 15 years ago with their big franchise films as they knew what made them popular but it just seems that their greed for profit has gotten worse and worse and their interference even worse than it used to be (though of course for Alien 3 that was admittedly one of their worst cases of interference)

Fox do have a reputation as chronic fiddlers. I was gonna say that the Alien reboot would hopefully be safe with Sir Ridley behind the scenes, but even he isn't immune; look at what they did to Kingdom Of Heaven.

I think they are trying for the crown previously held by Universal during the early eighties: Brazil butchered! Legend [another Scott film] butchered! Stick [even earning them 100s of millions ol' Burt wasn't safe!] butchered!

Fans have been clamouring for an origins movie for a while and even Scott said he would only ever return if that was the concept of another "Alien" movie.
