Moon (2009 film)

There was a brief review of the recently released (in the US) off-beat Sci-fi film Moon. Seems interesting, but the info available so far on IMDB or Wikipedia is very limited. Does anyone have links to a more detailed critical analysis of the film?

A quick google threw up this

http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117...goryid=31&cs=1

but it's as I'm sure you've noticed, the word "moon" is so common in movies, that it's frankly near impossible to find much

Yup.

Quite why he changed his name to 'Duncan' out of all the names in the world to chose from is a strange one. (sorry to any Duncan's reading.)

He used to call himself Joe - which kind of made sense...

The effects house involved is featured in this clip.

The official website is here although there's not much on it

From what little I have seen so far, Moon seems like a "thoughtful" Sci-fi film like Alphaville or Solaris. It is likely to have some good visual effects at least.

Hmmm.

That trailer looks pretty good. I'm rather intrigued. Is this out yet?

No UK date yet (Strange considering it's a British film) but it's out in June in the States.

Very cool poster too...

I heard that the less you know about the film the better so I'm going to stay in the dark about this.

It's quality. You can well imagine it hangin about with R2-D2. And when the fan is switched on it looks like it's scanning for life-forms like R2-D2 does on the ice world of Hoth when Luke Skywalker goes missing. Quality in moton. The other day it disappeared. I said, "where's the bag-l gone? have the jawas come to pick it up in the sandcrawler?" to which one of the girls in the office replied, "No, Les the porter!" —Captainchode

The trailer certainly looks promising. As I mentioned before, this looks like an intellectual Sci-fi film in the Solaris mould and so may not appeal to those expecting a fast-moving actioner. I want to see this film at some stage.

The similarity in ethos to Solaris might be more than coincidental. Eastern European sci-fi stories from the 50s & 60s often had a strong psychological element to them, as depicted in the 1963 Czech film Ikarie XB1. I suspect the slightly retro looking theme of Moon might have a bit of influence from an earlier era.

Wow, that looks great! I love Sam Rockwell anyway, but after seeing that trailer, this is a huge want to see right now.

Man, this feels like it has been a long time coming. I think it was Film 200X that did a feaure on it while they were filming, but I'd pretty much forgotten about the whole thing until recently. Just awaiting a release date now.

Ooooh that looks fantastic!
A dash of 2001, a sprinkle of Solaris and a dusting of Silent Running.
