My 360 has so many problems but just manages to keep on running. Latest one is that the Chinatown map just will not work. It freezes my 360 completely every single time.
There's that and the Halo multiplayer constantly coming up with dirty disk errors. There's the graphics going funny in Guitar Hero III and that freezes when going back (pressing B) through the options.
I also have to nudge the drive to open it and again to close it!
I'm tempted to buy an arcade machine for about £149.99 and then swap my current hard disk into it. But then it could be the hard disk that is failing. Sounds more like the graphics card though and possibly the drive. It's out of warranty too. But you can sell duff 360s on ebay for about £50-60. So it might be worth doing that rather than shelling out £80 to MS and waiting a month or so.

I had that problem with mine but managed to fix it. There's a little rubber band just inside the drive which sends the drive in/out. When that gets dirty it slips and doesn't have the power to send the drive out/in. It was just a case of taking that out and giving it a clean and then putting it back.
It was a little fiddly but was worth it for me as I was selling it (upgrading to Falcon). Found a guide somewhere on how to do it....

Excellent thanks for that. Definitely worth a go as it's pretty annoying.
I'm not having much joy getting mine collected at the minute.
I phoned on Saturday to arrange a repair and received the shipping label within a couple of hours. I phoned UPS on Monday to collect it and they said they would only collect it from the address given to them by Microsoft and that to collect from my work address or my neighbour I'd need to contact Microsoft again. So I phoned Microsoft again to arrange a different collection address and they said that they'll only deliver back to the address it was collected from (very handy) and that they'd need to reissue the collection label for an alternate address which would take up to 48 hours.
Still not heard anything by today so I just phoned Microsoft again and they said they'd not sent the labels because there's a 'problem' with my account having 2 collections on (even though the guy I spoke to cancelled the first collection before putting the second one on). Now he says they'll have to re-enter the collection request again but there's a problem with their system and I'll need to call back in 24-48 hours by which point the current collections will have been deleted from their system and they'll be able to enter a new collection request.
And UPS called to collect from home on Monday even though I'd told them nobody would be in

*snip*
Yet weirdly they were more than happy to collect mine from my wife's work address last week. That's the problem with MS support, they tell different people different things all the time.
Still waiting to hear what's happened to mine, as the tracking service claims I have no pending repairs. I'm secretly hoping they've lost it and I'll be able to get a new one...
2 years and going ok but the odd noise from the drive makes me think it will die on GTA launch day.
if it does go i think id just buy another as i dont think the drive is covered?
They do replace drives for free. My sons and mother in laws went back cause they stopped reading discs. The website said they where out of warranty when I registered them but both got repaired with no charge.
Now got to go through it again as my other sons has just got the red lights
My 1st 360 died (3RL depsite on a wooden surface and plenty of space around the machine and PP) on me in about early Dec 2006 iirc and the 2nd one never did die but the dvd drive was having problems reading certain games. When the price dropped I traded it in and got a new one as there was games I wanted to play (like with the playstation and people who had the ps2, all 3 had terrible reliability but had the games people wanted to play). If this one has problems that I'll get a ps3
Mine froze up on me last night. No red RROD, just froze up. Tried unplugging it, removing hd etc, different game. But keeps freezing up on loading screen of every game Typical with GTA4 out next week.

Just booted mine and it did exactly the same thing
So, like, what do I do now? Will M$ fix it? Pretty sure it's out of the 1 year warranty thing.
