DMR-E55 stuck in "self check" mode ?

Hi all,

My dad has got the above problem with his Panasonic DVD recorder.

It's been doing it for weeks ... the problem started when he put in a new DVD-Ram disc but then he couldn't eject it. Eventually he managed to eject it (he can't remember how now) and recently put in a retail DVD.

Whenever you plug the recorder in, it goes into a "self checking" loop and won't do anything else - all you can do is pull the plug out. But when you plug it back in it repeats the "self checking" loop.

Anyone had this problem before ? Looking round the internet, it appears it may be a fault with the machine which can only be fixed by Panasonic ?

TIA for any help.

Regards,

Adam Brunt

I think this thread might be the answer. I have a DMR E85 and I've been waiting for this to go wrong with mine (it hasn't yet, touch wood).

Basically, if you can solder a little bit, you can fix it yourself very cheaply.

Thanks.

That rules me and my dad fixing it then

Looks like he will have to spend more of my inheritance Though I could sell him the ES10 I have under my son's bed which hasn't been opened since we bought if for someone else who then changed their mind.

had the E85 for a few years - apart from getting through 2 remotes, it's working fine, but as above, am expecting this problem to happen eventually

used to use it contstantly, but rarely record much on it now

Not sure how often my dad uses his and am tempted to point him down the Freeview PVR route.
