is there something wrong with my r2 copy, because the sound mix seems to be very flat in places.
for example :
grevious punches the side of a ship : no impact noise,
kenobi gets thrown against same ship : no impact noise,
various big explosions which in the cinema made the walls rumble : paper bags being popped,
the lightsaber fights sound like they are trying to stop a baby from waking up,
My R2 is fine. It has a very dynamic audio track on it.

Watched this on saturday, was very impressed with the soundtrack. The best DD track ive heard, surrounds were used really well - rear sounds actually sound like they are from behind and not from both rear speakers if you get what i mean.
The movie was even more enjoyable than the first time, i thought the direction was very good actually just let down by some truely cringe worthy dialogue and the overuse of CG (although nowhere near as bad as AOTC).
One bit that had be laughing was Mace Windus fight with Palpertine, Samuel L was trying to pull off the mean face (head tilted down, eyes looking up) but just looked comical instead. Hes the king of cool and a badass mofo but not a mean mofo. Hayden captured the mean look perfectly.
Yeah, the sound mix is a corker. It's one of the most immersive mixes I've ever heard, and has an impressive dynamic range. Sith has the most balanced Star Wars mix by far, avoiding the ridiculously OTT bass heard in the other films while still managing to rattle the walls at certain moments.
I found the soundmix to be good as well, although i didn't notice many distinct surround effects (i know that doesn't make a soundtrack good per say, but I like em!).
Got round to watching some of the deleted stuff today and it looks as though Lucas cut out some of the more intresting stuff, I really woudn't mind seeing an extended cut of this one.

i only just managed to keep my backside on my seat for this version. i found it exceptionally dull and lacking in anything of merit other than an abundance of cgi. its not fit to lick the boots of the originals imo.
Whats with CDWOW ?? - still no despatach ? Really poor. How can they not get enough stock of what will certainly be one of the years biggest selllers ??

Your raise several valid points, I went to see it twice in the cinema and managed to fall asleep twice doh (luckily one was a free screen put on by my work). Maybe Lucas could take out some the boring crap and put in stuff like the birth of the rebellion after all that is far more interesting then some of the stuff that ended up on the screen, I am still scratching my head and wondering why the Wookies were in there at all, did I miss something while I was a sleep?
Sith was rubbish. Stilted, CGI-swamped, over-long, fan-boy pandering garbage.
Every fibre of my being longed to like it, but it was poop. Pretty, but poop.
The blame lies squarely at the door of Mr. Lucas, who should have let someone else direct the prequels. He still would have had creative control, yet without hurtling blindly down a path of selfish pomposity. He really needed someone on set to keep him grounded, not just a series of fawning yes-men (I'm looking at you McCallum!).
The acting is universally awful, talented thesps such as Ewan Macgregor, Sam Jackson, Jimmy Smits, Natalie Portman et al all struggle with dense, pseudo-classical dialogue. Hayden Christensen is a good actor, but not in Star Wars. Instead of exuding the menace and ruthlessness of Vader, he seems more like a child burning ants on an anthill, albeit with a lightsaber.
Speaking of lightsabers, the "Duel to end all duels" at the climax of the film, was a joke. Compared to the fluidity and panache of Episode I's swordplay, Sith looks amateurish and almost verges on comedy. Why Lucas felt the need to edit it to look like The Fall Guy's speeded up car chases, I will never understand. The less said about the Super Mario aspects towards the end, the better.
I'm sure the DVD will be a technical tour-de-force, with amazing quality of picture and sound, but its only polishing a turd.
I bet you I'll end up buying it though.
I hate to say it but it's all true. I loved ATOC, and hoped Sith would be more of the same, but the characters were lifeless and they turned Yoda from being a Badass master in Clones, into a backwards talking idiot.
Shame on you G. Lucas, this film should have been the momentum to drive people back to re-watch the whole series. Instead it made me feel like Star Wars should R.I.P.
^Sith is a far superior film in all aspects to the the other two prequels.
At least this time we had a proper villain and some excellent light-saber duels, including Kenobi-v-Vader.
Sith is the only one of the new films that even approached the atmosphere and excitement of the originals imo.
As for Yoda not being "badass" (like he is when we 1st meet him in Empire...NOT!!!), how about when he takes out those two guards and then gives Palpatine (who was brilliant in this) a run for his money, as was Mace's fight with the same.
Yes so shame on you G. Lucas for making a film not everyone enjoyed...It happens!
