Hamilton hasn't been challenged all race and the rest if just a procession.

That huge lockup that Vettel had when he held Bottas back was on the same tyre. That couldn't have helped it

So happy when Vettel's tyre went, he was never challenging for the lead but it's knocked down the gap to just 1 point so next week's race isn't going to be interesting!

One thing I noticed today was the sheer noise from the crowd when say Bottas was closing on Vettel, or Verstappen getting the better of him in the early stages. Maybe they turned the mics up, but you don't get that elsewhere.

They said more people go to Silverstone than any other GP, even the US ones.

didn't realise Vettel only did the installation lap with the shield before wanting rid.

Safety is of course paramount, but the halo looks ****. Why just F1 too

I'm just very bemused by the seemingly overwhelming negative reaction on social media to it. If there's a better option out there, sure - but there isn't - and in the meantime, the FIA isn't going to sit around and hope an incident won't happen so they won't be sued for not implementing safety measures that could have prevented injuries.

I'm sure it'll get refined over time to be thinner and less obstructive on the front bar.

I don't agree with that line of reasoning. Limit the cars to 150 mph, surely they'll be safer. 100 mph, safer still. Those are all possible, and you wouldn't need a test to prove them, but would ruin the sport so they aren't done... yet anyway.

This halo looks terrible, has extraction issues, will cause visibility issues for drivers, will obscure the driver for fans, and if I remember correctly some drivers even reported going cross-eyed trying to focus past the central strut. I also fear it could hook parts of a car in a crash, e.g. the nose or front of the floor, and draw it towards the driver.

I understand why the physics of it works with large projectiles, but I think it introduces other safety issues as a consequence and has too many negatives to justify its use.

Difference is, I don't think the halo will 'ruin the sport'. If it does, the sport has far deeper issues than the halo...

There are those that don't like the change in engine sound and were vocal about it. But I don't see anyone posting recently about how the engine sound has made recent races worse.

It's fair to say my view is in part idealogical and about the look of the device, but I do genuinely worry that it's more of a compromise than other changes. I believe it has the potential to make some accidents worse, e.g. it's harder for the driver to get out in a fire especially if it's upside down (and these cars not only have fuel on board, but massive lithium ion type batteries as well) it might have unintended consequences when two cars come together drawing parts towards the driver that would otherwise have missed, and I'm concerned about forward visibility e.g. missing the rain/ERS light.

The only way I see it ruining the sport is that a significant number of fans only tune in to see a significant head injury. Anything to help safety is a benefit.

Seems an odd design though, there's got to be a blind spot there.

I don't know about odd it's just plain bloody awful. As for a blind spot I think drivers have said the only concern was at tracks like Spa. I think Vettle was among a couple of drivers who said it made him feel sick as well when driving.

That was the shield which made him feel sick wasn't it?
