Cry RIP Chris Cornell

Bloody hell. This one's going to hit me hard. A "sudden and unexpected death" at age 52.

One of the best voices in rock of all time.

Totally shocked by this. Over the years I've seen him with Soundgarden, Audioslave and on his solo tour. Amazing voice. RIP Chris.

Totally shocking, my phone just popped up with the news. Must have been accidental. Very odd. Been following all of his various projects since I got BadMotorFinger when it was released.

I was particularly fond of his solo albums with their more acoustic vibe. I have good memories of listening to Euphoria Morning repeatedly with my friend when it came out. I still maintain he did the best James Bond theme, too.

Euphoria Morning was my favourite of his solo albums. He tweeted 8 hours ago on tour, but then that could be someone managing his twitter account.

Shocked to hear this. Not a big fan, but he had a great voice and I loved "Black Hole Sun" and "Spoonman". RIP.

Enjoyed his music while not being a massive fan, definitely agree about the Bond song being the best.

I'm seeing upsetting reports that this may have been a suicide. I don't think any of the sources are reputable yet, though.
EDIT: Detroit police say that's how they're treating it.

How sad if that's the case.

EDIT: Not sure how true this is but someone posted on another forum saying that last night after everyone had gone, Chris was still playing on the stage. They said it was really strange and the staff were getting frustrated because they had to stay so late.

Soundgarden were the first big band I ever saw live. Feeling seriously blue all day after hearing this.

Statement by Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office after an initial examination said "The cause of death has been determined as hanging by suicide,"

So so sad and thoughts go out to his family

RIP Chris

I rarely do the sad about celebs dying thing but this one made me feel a bit teary yesterday. I think although his life wasn't reported as much as someone like say Axl Rose, he had a lot of demons over the years. Problems with drink and drugs and he's seen a good few of his mates die in their prime. I don't know what drives someone to suicide, especially when you think he had the looks, talent, a constantly successful career etc. Just shows you no amount of wealth or talent can stop depression.

Looking back, a lot of Soundgarden stuff could be construed as being about depression. What a trilogy of classics though, Badmotorfinger, Superunknown and Down on the Upside. I've never stopped listening to them and probably never will.

What a crying shame, especially to go under such circumstances. I was always secretly hoping for a new Audioslave album. I never understood the vitriol directed at some of their output.

One of my fave's from Euphoria Morning:

Just a stunningly powerful voice.

The first two Audioslave albums are great. The third is pants though.

I guess Pretty Noose and Like Suicide are going to be off the playlist for a while.
Found this heartbreaking quote about the writing of Fell on Black Days:

Quote:
No matter how happy you are, you can wake up one day without any specific thing occurring to bring you into a darker place, and you'll just be in a darker place anyway. To me, that was always a terrifying thought, because that's something that – as far as I know – we don't necessarily have control over. So that was the song I wanted to write. It just took a while.
His wife has made a statement now, apparantly Chris was on medication and she thinks it played a part:

I'd not heard any of his solo albums, but thanks to the notes on here and on twitter I checked a couple out over the weekend and was really impressed although quite a few of the tracks have some lyrics which take on a whole lot more weight and emotion given the tragic end to his life.
