[Xbox 360] Original Xbox Games Backward Compatibility List

Hi. I thought that this topic needs its own thread so that people don't have to flick through the pages of the Xbox 360 thread.

Below, I have listed all the Xbox games that can be played on the Xbox 360.

Firstly, to be able to play these games on the Xbox 360, some emulation software, called the 'Original Xbox Game Support' software, must be downloaded. This can either be done through Xbox Live, by burning the software to a CD or DVD or requesting a disc to be sent to you from Microsoft.

To download the software using Xbox Live:
Make sure you're signed into Xbox Live, and then place an original Xbox game in the drive and close it. This will start the backward compatibility application and cause Xbox Live to send an update to the application, if necessary.

To get the update by downloading the software and burning it to a CD or DVD:
Download the software here: Original Xbox Game Support Software. Burn the file straight to a CD or DVD, insert it into your Xbox 360 console and follow the on-screen instructions.

To get the software disc from Microsoft:
In a few weeks, you'll also be able to order a disc from Xbox.com. There will be a 'nominal' fee charged for this disc and shipping and handling (which has yet to be revealed).
Insert the disc into your Xbox 360 console and follow the on-screen instructions.

The list of Original Xbox Games that are backward compatible with the Xbox 360 [Last Update: December 2005]:

Very handy. I just bought Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for £9.99 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas £13. Should look good running at 720.

I only played two games on my original Xbox PES5 and Psychonauts. I see they have covered 50% of that. Now let's hope that when Psychonauts finally gets to Europe we'll be able to play it on the 360 as well. I really miss my Psychonauts fix now I cannot play my US copy.

Should mabye mention on this Thread that Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas - only the full price stand alone version works currently.

Myself and MarcusUK both have the Trilogy Pack and it does not work, and Hezzer has the Classics version and that does not work either.

Apparently Microsoft are aware of it and are working on a fix.

Cheers.

Let me know if your SC:CT works ok on your 360 will ya. I ran it on for all of 30 sconds into the first mission and now my 360 is dead..wont stay working for more than a few seconds.

It was fine until I tried SC:CT in it... could just be co-incidence of course but if something is wrong with the emulation it needs to be highlighted to MS...

Do we know how they are updating the games? Are we going to get them monthly or just when ever?

I have not had any problems with my 360 and playing Chaos theory which is running fine for me, so maybe its your machine.

From what I have read the team who are doing the backwards compatible stuff are having a break Doing the current crop took it out of them

But I think it's going to be a monthly thing. But don't quote me on that..

This also provides an amusing read about a slight cock up with the emulator software

Just so people know...

Sniper Elite does NOT work on the 360. The US version does, but not the European. The game works fine until after the mission loading screen and then it crashes.

A known issue. Disappointing, as I love this game

No news Haven't heard any. I am really hoping that new Xbox 1 games will work out of the box on the 360 (Toca 3 etc) as with the dev time they must surely of been able to work with the MS teams to not have to worry about waiting longer for a patch. That said, the Codies team seem to dismiss that rumour.

Splinter Cell: CT. Can't get it to work at all on 360, it's hell. Been playing on the original Xbox

Some problems I've noticed so far:

Hurricane Pack #2 for Ninja Gaiden doesn't seem to d/l correctly and won't work although other content for this game is fine; game also suffers from slowdown issues esp. at boss fights

Star Wars Clone Wars-appears to use widescreen settings but forces a 4:3 image, ie black borders at the side - trying to change the screen settings crashes the game

Anyone else got these problems - using the hi-def pack
