Apple/Valve console coming soon?

There's been rumours that Valve have been working on a console as well as Apple creating a TV. So could they be combining them?

http://www.develop-online.net/news/4...r-home-console

Quote:
Two tech giants could launch joint assault on the living room, unconfirmed report claims
Apple sent its CEO to Valve’s Washington headquarters last week with a plan to forge a partnership to directly compete with existing home consoles, according to an unverified report.
It is unknown what Tim Cook had discussed with Valve managing director Gabe Newell last week, while the suggestion that both met has still not been confirmed.
Yet Cult of Mac, a news website which publishes rumours that sometimes turn out to be accurate, claims Apple is “planning a full-on assault to take over the living room”.
“This assault won’t just be limited to the long-rumoured Apple HDTV set, but will also include a revolutionary home console as well,” the publication claimed.
Such claims have lingered as rumour for more than a year, but have not picked up beyond this.
Cult of Mac claims “Apple is working on a television set with an iTunes-integrated touch screen remote and Siri-like voice command technology, and come with an Apple-branded, Kinect-like video game console”.
Steve Jobs, the late co-founder of the technology and media empire, was quoted in his biography as having conceived plans for creating an Apple television set. It is claimed that the system will release by the end of the year.
Valve, a company which routinely experiments both on games and interface, has already expanded its Steam games service to play on living room television sets.
The company already has its Steam service available on Macs, with a simplified version available on iOS and Android devices.
Valve was recently engulfed by rumours that the company is attempting to build its own games console.

Considering it'd need to be running Windows to run 90% of the steam library I'm not sure this will happen.

Why do apple need steam to do it? Isn't steam just a way of buying games rather than original content?

Valve don't like closed platforms. Apple doesn't need Valve for an iOS console. Steam and AppStore could be seen as competitors if Mac gets an AppStore.

We've got no real evidence that Tim Cook actually went to Valve at all.

More and more Steam titles are Mac compatible these days (some are even being patched for Mac months/years after initial release), but I suppose that evidences common sense more than some sort of allegiance.

makes no sense - Apple would want their 30% of all apps sold on the console.

From my guy inside of Apple he says this was complete nonsense, made up entirely.

Thinking about it, I can see a small Apple console with a wireless joypad working quite well, bit like the AppleTV thing. Just downloading little APP style games.

£100 price point, I'd buy one
