Samsung Galaxy S network problem

Does anyone else have a problem with this handset not auto switching from a wifi connection to mobile data once out of range of the wifi access point?

It used to do this no problem, but recently I have to re-scan the networks and connect to my provider (Virgin mobile) manually each time, it's driving me nuts!

When it searches the providers it finds two different Virgin networks (one has a small 'v' at the beginning of the name, the other a capital 'V'). Could this be a reason?

If anyone has a solution, it would be gratefully received!
