Sony BR 360 setup help - cable confusion

Just about to nip to Argos and then set up the BR player. My previous player was an SD Toshiba 330E player which was attached to a sub and Denon 1803 amp via coaxial cable. Scart connection to Sky+ box and then to Toshiba 42WLT68. I'm a bit confused as to whether I need to purchase a HDMI cable and an optical lead or just the HDMI? Can anyone help?

you'll need both as the amp doesn't have any HDMI inputs (so far as I can tell from a quick google). you'll connect via HDMI to the TV and optical to the amp.

Do you have HDMI Input in your amp? If so, just plug it straight into that.

If not, you'll have to use HDMI straight into the TV and an optical or coaxial into the amp for the sound, I think. Not really sure..

Thanks guys. I just got the HDMI cable in the end (everywhere are low on stock it seems -- as well as being more expensive, the one I got is woefully short as well so that will be going back) and it all works fine. The sub has a splitter on the coaxial lead, so not sure if that is how the sound is okay without an optical (it's been a number of years since I set it up). I suspect I won't be getting the best out of the system at the moment but I don't own any BR discs so will experiment at a later time.

Sounds weird, given this pic you should go with sky+ connected with hdmi to tv and optical digital to the amp, and s360 connected with hdmi to tv and optical to amp.

Wish my WLT66 had three hdmi and not two as I've run out already, currently engaged in amp research mode

Not sure how it works but it does - even managed to play an SD DTS track earlier. I have a scart running from the Sky box (standard) to the TV. Would a HDMI lead make that much difference? I also have a Velodyne VX 10 sub. I am bit concious that I might not be getting the best sound when it comes to BR but I can't justify upgrading the amp as having kids has sapped my viewing time anyway.
