The Resident [Antti J. Jokinen, 2010, Hammer Films] starring Christopher Lee

The Resident (previously titled 'Invasion of Privacy'), starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilary Swank, as also announced Christopher Lee will be joining the cast in his first proper Hammer outing since To the Devil a Daughter in 1976.

Sounds interesting. Antti Jokinen has very little on his directing CV, so it remains to be seen what he'll do for Hammer productions, but he has a pretty decent cast at hand.

With that cast I'll watch it regardless! :)

Bring it on, this sounds fabulous!

The Resident - Hilary Swank, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Christopher Lee

Just saw this. It's the new flick from the rejuvenated Hammer Films.

Swank & Morgan are both good value for money. Lee is more of a cameo role, but it's always good to see him onscreen, especially in a Hammer film.

It sets out its stall about half an hour in, so there are no real surprises after that, but it's very well done, fairly creepy & even a little disturbing at times. Very nicely shot too.

Recommended!

Don't watch the trailer if you don't want to see who the baddy is!

Well I watched the trailer a few days back, and there's a brief glimpse of the bad guy in the trailer... might not bother some but I think some clips are best kept in the main feature :)

Space Duck 06-02-2011 00:31

Looks like they're ******* about with the release in the US... First it was theatrical, then straight to DVD now it's Limited theatrical release on the same day it goes to PayTV... then US DVD/Blu at the end of march.

Icon are releasing it over here, so fingers crossed for a Theatrical release but then we'll be months behind on the home release window again. God damn region coding!

Professor Abronsius 06-02-2011 09:44

Been looking forward to this for a while...

There is a Thread for it from way back in 2009. :D

Edit - Ratfink's Thread here.

Agree the Trailer kinda reveals too much but it's a Hammer Movie with Christopher Lee in it so will still be checking it out!!!

I see this is finally out? Reviews say its pretty solid. Pity its not in my local :|

RomerojpgX 20-03-2011 15:53

It will be gone very soon from cinemas it seems, 2 weeks and thats your whack. I wanted to see it, but showing times were crap, 9.30 at night only this week for me.

Ratfink 20-03-2011 16:57

Yeah, this has been playing at my local - reasonable times - I've just been busy and haven't had the chance. I might try and catch it before the week is out, as I reckon this will be its last run.

It's on R1 by the end of the month.

I really enjoyed it. The bit with the needle really made me hide my face in my hands but there are no gruesome bits to talk of really. Although this one doesn't test swank they used her ability at one point and it's "Oh my.... poor lady"

We also get to see swank boobs and we get to see through a wardrobe malfunction that she likes to landing strip 'approach'

Looks like a straight to dvd release for the US as no box office figures and it was supposedly getting a limited release in mid February.
IMDB ratings only give it 5.2 and the reviews seem to be either bad or damning with faint praise. Though according to screenrush it's showing at 88 cinemas still.

Space Duck 21-03-2011 08:21

Yeah it was getting a cinema release over there and then it wasn't then it was straight to DVD along with on Demand services with the possibility of cinema dates... DOH!

Totally messed about in the US :)

ian turner 21-03-2011 09:21

Just noticed you mentioned that earlier :brickwall
Swank obviously lacks the star factor required to sell anything.

Space Duck 21-03-2011 10:47

But she's so damn good in whatever she does :) I love the woman despite her Manish features at times... ****** horror? She'll give it the same she'll give for a big budget blockbuster... :)

Saber 21-03-2011 19:17

She should karate them.

segals_ponytail 21-03-2011 22:39

youre not missing much
theres a reason why its not on any cinemas, its pretty bad

Space Duck 22-03-2011 07:55

How dare you say such a thing about a Swank film?!?!

To be honest I think it's more a horror/thriller that will creep out girls.... :)
