Something along the lines of

but with the the TX lines cut?

What are you eavesdropping?

Never heard of one of these, and it sounds like a wind up. What are you trying to do that couldn't be acheived with a standard cable and setting permissions to read only?

Has he not asked you to go and get a long stand or some fallopian tubes from next door yet? :suspect:

And while you're there - pick me up a left handed screwdriver would you?

They do exist....

Proper version: http://www.geocities.com/samngms/sniffing_cable/

One that will work on a hub, but not a switch: http://www.snort.org/docs/faq.html (Section 3.1)
Better pictures here: http://www.ortizonline.com/publications/June2003/receiveonlycable.htm

It's not the cable that's the problem - with a hub the received packets are sent to all the terminals connected to the hub, with a switch packets are only sent to their intended destination. Apparently there are ways of getting round this but they're not very neat.

jonesya is right about that, played with one myself at my old work. Ended up plugging a sniffer direct into the phone system in the end as that was a hub, and all our PC traffic went through it.

This thread is an excellent example of how close minded humans are in thinking that if they haven't heard of something, it doesn't exist. It's either that or they think that they know so much on an area of knowledge that they would not believe they do not know of something new/unheard of.

No offence meant to posters, just an observation of human nature. :D

I myself believe that suych cable doesn't exist until pointed otherwise.
